Khalid Ibrahim is the Executive Director of the Gulf Center for human rights in charge of management, programme development, fundraising and training. He is an Iraqi human right defender with decades of experience in the human rights field, including more than ten years in Dublin a staff of Frontline Defenders. There, he had the chance to work on human rights issues in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. In 2011, he decided to focus on human rights in the Gulf region and neighbouring countries. He co-founded the Gulf Center for Human Rights (GCHR).

He has a BSc in Physics from Iraq, MSc in Health Informatics from Trinity College in Dublin, and is a PhD researcher at Trinity College Dublin in digital protection for human rights defenders. He is a certified specialist in the field of human rights with an interest in the use of new technologies to enhance the protection of human rights in the MENA region.

The GCHR is an independent, non-profit, and non-governmental NGO that works to strengthen support and protection for human rights defenders (including independent journalists, bloggers, lawyers, etc.) in order to enable them to promote human rights, including but not limited to freedom of expression, association and peaceful assembly. GCHR is based in Lebanon and documents the environment for HRDs in the Gulf region and neighbouring countries, specifically Bahrain, Kuwait, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, the United Arab Emirates and Yemen.
