Together at RightsCon Tunis, our first summit hosted in the Middle East and North Africa, more than 2500 expert practitioners will come together across over 400 sessions to shape, contribute to, and drive forward the global agenda for the future of our human rights.

Dr. Claudia von Vacano is the Executive Director of the Social Science Data Lab known as the D-Lab http://dlab.berkeley.edu/ and the Digital Humanities http://dh.berkeley.edu/ at the University of California, Berkeley, and is on the board of the Social Science Matrix http://matrix.berkeley.edu/ and the Berkeley Center for New Media http://bcnm.berkeley.edu/. She has worked in leadership positions in policy and educational administration since 2000, and at the UC Office of the President and UC Berkeley since 2006.

Claudia is the lead online course developer of the SAGE Campus, “Introduction to Applied Data Science Methods for Social Scientists,” (https://campus.sagepub.com/introduction-to-data-science-for-social-scientists/) and a reviewer of the Oxford University Press online course on reproducibility, and she is the lead researcher on the Online Hate Index research project in partnership with ADL https://www.adl.org/resources/reports/the-online-hate-index.

While working at various educational institutions, she conducted extensive resource development efforts, raising and managing multi-million-dollar budgets, and successfully implemented large-scale projects (city-wide, statewide, and UC-wide), while building strategic international partnerships.

Claudia's degrees are from Stanford University in Learning, Design, and Technology (Master's) and UC Berkeley in Policy, Organizations, Measurement, and Evaluation (Ph.D.). Her expertise is in digitally-inflected research methodology and her content expertise is online learning, language acquisition, and organizational behavior. She also has expertise in higher education policy with an emphasis in California.

Claudia’s research and programs include international partnerships with Escola Fundação Getulio Vargas, São Paulo, Brazil; Media Lab Sciences Po, Paris, France; Digital Humanities Summer Institute, University of Victoria, British Columbia, Canada; Universidad de Málaga, Málaga, Spain; Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München, Munich, Germany; and Heidelberg University, Germany.

The Phi Beta Kappa Society, the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the Rockefeller Brothers Foundation, and the Thomas J. Watson Foundation, among others, have recognized her scholarly work and service.
