Callisto: Combating sexual assault through cryptography
With the #MeToo / #BalanceTonPorc movements, survivors and their allies have been organizing to create safe, effective reporting options, a goal which is far from realized. The tools used to date do not factor in the privacy or civil liberties of the victims or the accused, and can often cause more harm to these progressive movements. Callisto, a San Francisco nonprofit organization, will share how they built technology to combat sexual assault: a repeat perpetrator detection system that allows survivors of sexual assault or professional sexual coercion to securely create an encrypted entry of their incident and receive legal consultation on their options for pursuing justice.
