Building Platforms That Open Governments and Their Watchdogs

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

Building off their work in countries around the world and with tens of thousands of journalists, researchers, and ordinary people, representatives from the Freedom of Information platforms Alaveteli and MuckRock will share how they have used their respective platforms to find new ways to bring transparency to communities while also helping newsrooms and non-profits embrace transparency with their readers and supporters. The session will also be used to discuss existing and emerging challenges as NGOs use software platforms to enact social change, ranging from how to cooperate with government without being beholden to it to how to build a sustainable organization not wholly dependent on a limited number of funders.
