Putting Human-Rights based Cybersecurity Strategies into Practice: A focus on Africa

We currently experience increasing calls for multi-stakeholder collaboration in the field of cybersecurity policy making. But how does this commitment reflect in the day-to-day implementation of cybersecurity assessments and strategies in African countries?

The panel will discuss findings from a study by Global Partners Digital on human rights based cybersecurity capacity building in the Global South. Cybersecurity experts from different sectors in Ghana, Tunisia and the region will share their lessons learned and recommendations related to practical cross-stakeholder initiatives in their countries and regions. Experiences and comments from the audience will be welcome to make the discussion as interactive and substantive as possible.

The session will explore the following questions:
• What are good examples for locally owned, holistic cybersecurity capacity building initiatives?
• What lessons can be drawn from initiatives at the national and regional level in Africa? What does it need to improve regional coordination?
• How can a sustainable multi-stakeholder approach be operationalized when implementing cybersecurity assessments and strategies?
• What are major hurdles and how can they be addressed?
• How can cybersecurity be better linked to the wider development agenda?
