The session will serve to present the research carried out by Fundación Vía Libre within the framework of Ekoparty in Argentina. Ekoparty is the largest computer security conference in Latin America. The research investigated the Infosec community legal concerns, their view of the current legal framework and potential threats to their work in Argentina and the region. Among the topics investigated, we advanced on the legal knowledge of the community, the experience they have with the security agencies and the application of the laws in force as well as, and especially, the relationship of the community with those who make decisions related to public policies with the field. The diagnosis about the poor knowledge of the legislators in the matter, the lack of a correct advice and the limited vision of the cybersecurity appear as the first results of our research. We understand that the experience of this research can help the global Infosec community to develop common work strategies to strengthen knowledge on the field of information security and improve the policies adopted by the countries.
