Smart Cities, Cognitive Cities, Sustainable Cities etc. are different ways to call the cities of the future, which should be hyperconnected and whose public services will be automated and customized. But are local authorities prepared to protect the data and privacy of their citizens? This session intends to discuss this and others issues, focusing on data protection in Public Administration and on models of law enforcement authorities, conflict mediation and dissemination of good practice. And why "Smart Cities in the Global South"? Because we will highlight the experience of Brazil and other emerging countries, exploring issues such as access problems, dangers in surveillance, fragile regulation etc.
