Innovative Transparency: Cisco's Privacy Data Maps (Cisco)

Description: When it comes to data privacy, knowledge is power. It’s no surprise that companies are increasingly being measured on the transparency they provide about what data they collect, who they collect it from, who has access to it, why they collect it, where it is stored, for how long, and when it will be deleted. Legalistic privacy statements aren’t always the easiest for the average person to understand. Cisco wanted a new way to visualize this data, so we developed something radically different, but also simple to help our users understand exactly what data we’re collecting and what we’re doing with it. Our new subway maps are the result of Cisco’s the privacy engineering process, from requirements gathering, engagement with engineering teams, assessments, and documentation. They offer transparency at the product-by-product level that anyone can navigate and use to orient themselves within the data ecosystem. And we haven’t seen this level of transparency from anyone else in the industry. In this session, we will discuss the big picture thinking behind why Cisco decided to take this radical and innovative step, demonstrate how the subway maps work to provide transparency on a whole new level, and to share insights from how the maps have been used by customers and end-users alike.

Description: Participants will gain an understanding of the capabilities of Blockchain-like technologies and how these technologies can be very useful in supporting human rights. First, they will learn about the main characteristics and features of these technologies such as their Immutability, Security, Robustness, data integrity, Transparency, cost, and Privacy. Then, they gain knowledge of the common uses of these technologies so far. Finally, they will get introduced to some ways that these technologies can be used to foster human rights.

Emotional Firewalls: Protecting users with unbiased Personal Assistants (The IO Foundation)

Description: A beginning of a broader conversation on how to protect users and their Digital Rights by using community-based, open source Personal Assistants. We wish to bring the attention to the audience upon: - The importance of information concentration; - The importance of emotions and how user profiling is used to trigger reactions aligned with third-parties interests/agendas and not necessarily the users’; - How the right approach to Personal Assistants can help mitigate these issues; - Launch the questions: - Could this lead to a distributed knowledge paradigm? - How could this approach shape stateless communities?
