Ed is a co-founder of Rights CoLab and a member of the adjunct faculty of Columbia Law School. His work with Rights CoLab is aimed at reimagining civil society in the Global South by looking beyond grant-funded NGOs, exploring new organizational forms and alternative resource models. From 2016 to 2018, he was a visiting professor of law at Cardozo Law School. Prior to that, he served as president and CEO of PILnet: The Global Network for Public Interest Law, an organization that he founded in 1997 to develop global resources and networks in support of local human rights advocacy around the world. Ed has co-created innovative human rights initiatives in China and in over 30 other countries in Europe, Asia, and Africa, including while living in Romania and Hungary for 10 years. He received the American Bar Association's International Human Rights Award in 2009.
