Robert Mahoney, deputy executive director, the Committee to Protect Journalists based in New York. Robert Mahoney is an experienced international correspondent and press freedom defender. He became CPJ deputy director in January 2007. He oversees CPJ’s core advocacy and reporting and writes and reports on media issues and the cases of journalists under threat and in prison worldwide. He appears regularly in international media as a commentator on press issues. He has helped lead CPJ advocacy for online journalists and serves as CPJ’s representative on the board of the Global Network Initiative, which brings together Internet companies and civil society groups. He worked as a reporter and later bureau chief for Reuters in Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East covering major stories and conflicts. In 2004, he taught journalism for the Reuters Foundation in the Middle East, and worked as a consultant for Human Rights Watch.
